FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What are the government registration fees?

The Office of the Public Guardian (the court that registers LPAs) charges a fee for official registration. This is £82 per LPA if you do not qualify for a discount or exemption. If a client’s income is under £12,000 per annum, we can apply for a 50% discounted rate (£41 per LPA). If you receive certain benefits, you may qualify for a complete exemption. This fee is paid once and means that your LPAs are registered for the rest of your life.

What is a protective property trust?

A PPT covers a share of a jointly-owned property to ensure that the surviving spouse or partner can continue to benefit from their deceased partner’s share in their home even when they are gone. Should they have to go into a care home, their share of the property may be protected – and can be passed on to family members upon their death.
